That a few original ideas may be made to signify a great number of effects and actions, it is necessary they be variously combined together. For, to denominate a body moved it is requisite, first, that it change its distance or situation with regard to some other body; and secondly, that the force occasioning that change be applied to it. This is what I repeat and inculcate, and earnestly recommend to the attentive thoughts of the reader.
