Wherever bodies are said to have no existence without the mind, I would not be understood to mean this or that particular mind, but all minds whatsoever. That a stone falls to the earth, or the sea swells towards the moon, may to some appear sufficiently explained thereby. But the objects perceived by sense are allowed to be nothing but combinations of those qualities, and consequently cannot subsist by themselves.
