Nor do I think them a whit more needful for the enlargement of knowledge than for communication. If we look but never so little into our thoughts, we shall find it impossible for us to conceive a likeness except only between our ideas. It hath set a price on the most trifling numerical speculations which in practice are of no use, but serve only for amusement; and hath therefore so far infected the minds of some, that they have dreamed of mighty mysteries involved in numbers, and attempted the explication of natural things by them.
